A prior European competition suspension imposed on City for violating UEFA’s financial fair play rules was overturned in 2020 after an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Guardiola stated why he had supported City back then and is convinced the team would maintain their innocence in a May 2022 interview.

The same thing occurred with UEFA, he claimed. “Similar articles make similar accusations. We will defend ourselves similarly to how UEFA handled the case. What happens will be decided by the court.

“I have no doubt that we will be found not guilty. It has been that way ever since Abu Dhabi took over the club.”

For the first time since the club was accused of breaking financial regulations by the Premier League, Guardiola addressed the media on Friday. “Premier League opponents are plotting against us,” he said.
Guardiola stated that other clubs have been pressing for City to be penalized and accused their Premier League rivals of plotting against them.

When asked if he believed other teams were in charge of the situation, Guardiola responded: “It is the Premier League, after all. I have no idea why. Ask the CEOs, Daniel Levy, and other people of this caliber.”

Spurs stated they do not desire to react in response to Guardiola’s remarks on Levy, the chairman of Tottenham.

Guardiola also made mention of the actions taken by several clubs during the process that resulted in City being initially given a two-year suspension by UEFA.

He stated: “Burnley, Wolves, Leicester, Newcastle, Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea were among the nine teams that (sent a letter wanting us) out of the Champions League.

“This is the second time the story has occurred, not the first. Two or three years ago, we experienced that firsthand.

“You condemn us; we need to be eliminated, but between those nine teams previously and the 19 teams currently, between their word and the word of my people, I’m sorry but I rely on the words of my people,” the player said.
